CHIMERA
Place: Gallery Space 148b, LondonThe title 'Chimera' was presented a fire breathing monster, which had the head of lion, the body of goat, and the tail of snake. It was the fantastic creations of ancient Greek myth.
However, today, chimera of modern genetic engineering technology is defined as a single organism constructed by a mixture of materials from two or more organisms of distinct genetic backgrounds. Rapid advances of technology have caused the boundary of species permeable and have created a new variety of organisms.
The exhibition 'Chimera' reflects not only such genetic composition, but also cultural phenomena characterised by social and economic conditions of globalisation and its information technologies. 'Chimera' is a platform of artistic creativity, which rearranges aesthetic combinations, exchanging ideas, stimulating and encouraging engagements on artists.
Chimera, the first of a series of exhibitions, will be held in Clerkenwell in April 2006. It will feature work in various media by young up and coming artists presented in a commercial environment. Including painting, photography, film and installation art the exhibition aims to reveal where the different approaches taken by each artist meet and develop. Each of the nine artists has been singled out by the art press in their 'ones to watch' and 'new artists' pages. Therefore this is also an opportunity to buy work by names of the future at an early stage of their careers.
